The TLX was shown at the 2014 Detroit auto show as a prototype, a lightly veiled version of the sedan due in Acura showrooms by the fall. The new car adopts some of the cues found on the larger RLX sedan, with emphatic use of LED headlights and exaggerated fenders that house the 20-inch wheels of the concept car. LED lights also underline the sideview mirrors.
Two distinct models should emerge as the TLX makes its way from the auto show circuit to Acura dealers. The base version is expected to share the Prototype's 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Power output is left undisclosed, but with direct injection and variable valve timing like the similar engine in the Honda Accord, used regina output should reach to 185 horsepower or more. The four-cylinder will be coupled to a new eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission that should give the TLX a more sporty driving feel than, say, the CVT coupled to Honda's used regina four-cylinder in the Accord.
The upgrade to this base powertrain will be a reworked version of Honda/Acura's 3.5-liter V-6, also outfitted with variable valve timing and direct injection and cylinder deactivation for better fuel economy. Today's version is rated at 286 horsepower. In the new TLX, the revamped engine will team up with a new nine-speed automatic transmission for what Acura predicts will be the best gas mileage ratings in its class. With either drivetrain, the new TLX will be offered with either front- or all-wheel drive. The front-drive car gets the ability to steer its rear wheels used regina slightly via actuators, a setup like that on the luxury RLX four-door. With all-wheel drive, the TLX has torque-vectoring control to assist with cornering. And the TLX also will be fitted with a four-mode used regina driver-selectable system used regina that alters steering weight, throttle response, and shift mapping to give it a more comfort- used regina or sport-oriented feel.
While used regina it also replaces the Euro-Accord TSX, the new TLX is sized more like the outgoing TL. It rides on an identical wheelbase of 109.3 inches, but is shorter overall, at 190.2 inches (down nearly four). Acura promises interior space will stay in the same range as that in the TL, good for five passengers. The cabin should be more quiet, with the use of active noise cancellation.
There's no information yet on luxury features, but in terms of safety, the 2015 TLX should perform well, based on recent Acura scores and a slew of equipment including lane keeping systems, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitors.

There's a distinct benefit to automakers having their own premium brand. After all, why develop one vehicle to be sold under one nameplate if you can turn it into two? Especially if a little reconfiguration and some premium accoutrements allow said automaker to charge significantly more for the luxury version. It's a winning formula can am – for crossovers especially – that Toyota has used to turn the Highlander into the Lexus RX (even if the first-gen can am RX arrived before the original Highlander), that Ford has used to transform the Edgee into the Lincoln MKX and that General Motors has applied to the Chevrolet Suburban to turn it into the Cadillac Escalade (to name just a few of the many examples can am out there). And it's one to which Honda and its Acura division are certainly not unaccustomed. can am Acura has adapted its Euro-spec Honda Accord into the TSX , the Civic into the ILX , the CR-V into the RDX and the Pilot into the MDX . And now that the Honda Vezel is coming to market, Acura reportedly has its eye on that as well. The idea was first introduced when Acura unveiled the SUV-X concept (shown above) at the Shanghai Motor Show this past April, just a few months after Honda revealed its Urban SUV concept that previewed the production Vezel. At the time, says Automotive News , Acura said it intended to put the concept into production in China for the Chinese market, and it's reportedly moving ahead with those plans. But now that it is, executives are wondering can am where else they might find buyers for the premium compact crossover. With the Vezel soon to begin production alongside the Fit at Honda's new plant in Mexico, can am it wouldn't be a stretch to see the Acura version follow suit. The market does, after all, seem to be heating up with entries like the Audi Q3 , BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA , and we couldn't blame Honda – pardon us, Acura – for wanting a slice of that pie.

Acura and Jerry Seinfeld are expanding their partnership auto joiner as season three of the comedian's web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee , prepares to debut. It's all very folksy, Leave it to Beaver style humor. We'd be lying, though, if we said we weren't reminded a bit too forcefully of Dodge's successful range of Will Ferrell ads when watching the eight Acura spots. "My idea for Comedians In Cars Getting auto joiner Coffee was to show this certain auto joiner aspect of the stand-up comedy world in a way that comedy fans would enjoy experiencing as if they were there," said Seinfeld. "There is absolutely auto joiner no doubt that without Acura's support I would not have been able to continue beyond the initial experiment. The eight spots are written and stylized in a retro 1960s style as a spoof of old-time advertising. They are a new element in Acura's exclusive sponsorship of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, a show where Seinfeld picks up other famous comedians in vintage automobiles and takes them out for coffee and funny, intimate conversations. Jerry Seinfeld has written linkin eight new Acura commercials in collaboration with Boston ad agency Mullen as part of the brand's title sponsorship of his Web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. The faux-vintage spots—all eight are posted below—will bookend new episodes of the show, coming Jan. 2. They were directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and inspired by actual old car commercials from the '60s.
But while those old spots sound a bit ridiculous these days (Seinfeld linkin ran actual vintage Acura ads as pre-roll on Comedians in Cars last season), these new ads are intentionally silly—playing off the old style but taking it in absurd directions. Seinfeld spoke with AdFreak on Tuesday about the creative process behind the ads, his experience with Super Bowl spots and what he thought of Will Ferrell's Dodge work.
So, these are fun spots. This must have been an exciting project for you. You know, I have done a bit of advertising over the years. But I have never been given the creative freedom that I was given on these by Acura. They're gutsier than any other company I've ever worked with. Not that I've worked with that many, but I've worked with a few. Because this work, as you can see, is not like any other work that they've done. And usually—as you well know, being in the ad game—the clients tend to get nervous, especially when they're spending a lot of money. But [Acura marketing chief] Mike Accavitti, linkin I've never seen a guy like this guy. Nerves of steel. It's pretty rare. But I think that's why they came out so good. I would give him all the credit. Tell me about the creative process—how you worked with Mullen on these. Mullen and I sat in a room together. Now, we ran vintage Honda and Acura stuff from the '60s and '70s last season on Comedians in Cars. And everybody kind of enjoyed that. And I said, Yeah, I've looked at everything that exists of the old advertising, and I picked out all the good ones. And I don't have any more. And I thought, Why don't we make new old advertising … that's bad. Because that's what's fun. A lot of the lines are stuff we actually found. We would put our little spin on it.
A lot of the advertising in the old days focused on the size of the car. People felt that you were really getting your money's worth if the car had a big trunk. Which of course is something that no one cares about now. No one buys an SUV and goes, "Well, how big is the trunk?" Because they're all big.
So, linkin it's about taking the old tropes and pushing them a little bit. Yes. And you know, to me, a lot of things have gotten worse that you could point to in our culture. linkin A lot of advertising has gotten worse. I think it's kind of lost its nerve, to be honest with you. I feel like the advertising of the '60s, they were nervier. You know why? Because there was less at stake. It always worked. There were three networks. Everyone's going to see this. They're going to buy the car. And now, everyone's more nervous. Eyeballs are harder to get. And everyone's linkin less inclined linkin to take a risk. You've linkin seen those high stakes linkin firsthand, having done Super Bowl ads for American Express and, of course, Acura. linkin Yeah. I've done a number of Super Bowl ads. And that is the best advertising linkin of the year. That is when people realize they're going to be compared directly against other ads.
What did you think of Will Ferrell's ads for Dodge? I like anything Will Ferrell does, so I was a fan of those. But it didn't seem to be a different type of car advertising. It seemed to be a different type of movie advertising. But different is always good. So, you wrote a lot of the jokes for these Acura ads? I did. We just wanted to get that feeling of "Hot, handsome and a honey to handle." Nobody says things like that anymore. Or "The perfect car for the big-car man." And the "Yesterday, today and tomorrow" thing. I like the little tension between the spokesman and the spokeswoman, that we can see that they aren't quite getting along.
My favorite thing is: "MDX. Three letters that stand for 'Earth, style and you.' " That's just like, nobody read that over and went, "What do you mean? Why does it stand for that? The letters don't even match up to that. Why are we saying that?" So, it's also part of the drunken, lazy ad culture of the '60s.

This was originally going to be a piece in which I congratulated Acura for inventing a 2006 Lexus IS350 with their grille on it, a vehicle they refer to as the TLX Concept . But I won't do that. There's no point in poking fun of Acura anymore.
I'm tired of being critical of Acura. Now, as we go into 2014, I am more convinced than ever that doing so is a meaningless exercise. I have never seen any company, automotive or otherwise, more committed to doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Let's first talk about the point of auto shows like the one in Detroit. Though they are increasingly becoming irrelevant in the digital age, auto shows exist to both preview feasible future products and to display new ideas. It's where automakers car auctions can show off new design languages, new technologies, new market segments they'd like to explore, and generally get people excited enough to care about their brand.
When was the last time you saw an Acura concept that wasn't a direct preview of one of their upcoming sedans or SUVs, and was instead something new, something invigorating, something that got people talking about the good things going on there?
It's literally been years since Acura has turned out anything even close to that. By my count, their last really interesting "out there" concept was the Advanced Sports Car Concept of 2007. That was seven years ago. Seven years . The last couple of years, it's mostly just been "prototypes" of the new MDX, RDX and now the TLX.
Meanwhile, the brands Acura thinks it competes with are, across car auctions the board, innovating and trying new and different things. The resurgent Cadillac dropped an attractive ATS Coupe, and a V version of that is surely in the pipeline. car auctions
Infiniti, that other often-beleaguered Japanese brand, is exploring new territory with the Q30 small crossover/hatch and may be cooking up a legit M fighter in the Q50 Eau Rouge , a car CEO Johan De Nysschen has ordered into production. You have to give Infiniti credit for being ambitious.
Volvo, after years of being in an apparent coma, is tapping their strengths by bringing back wagons like the V60, playing to their shooting car auctions brake heritage and displaying a sexy new design language. Lexus, car auctions historically the most staid of luxury brands, is getting a little "out there" with wild-looking cars like the RC-F coupe.
And yes, while we often criticize BMW for their oddball 5-Series GTs and 4-Series Gran Turismos, at least they aren't sitting still and are exploring niches to fill. There's also their i brand, which has produced two remarkably different and forward-thinking car auctions cars so far.
Even parent company Honda had some interesting cars on display car auctions at Detroit like the FCEV Concept that first showed up in Los Angeles last year. We all know hydrogen is probably bullshit, but good on Honda for producing such an interesting-looking concept.
What did we get from Acura this year? Another sedan. car auctions Just another sedan, probably based on some sort of Accord platform, with a V6 engine. Great job on your sedan, guys! I never would have expected this from you.
There's nothing that thrills and intrigues at Acura anymore. I'm convinced the only consumers buying them are the hardcore Honda and Acura loyalists or people so terrified by the thought of a car that might be "unreliable" that they're too scared to buy anything but these glorified Accords.
The TL was once Acura's top-selling model. But as consumer tastes have shifted toward crossovers, the TL has fallen to a distant car auctions third, behind the MDX and RDX crossovers. Acura's front-wheel-drive sedans have also struggled to compete against rear-drive cars from Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Emphasis mine. Come on, how long have we been hearing this criticism now? Since the early 1990s, at least. That's 20 years now, people. At this point Acura's stubborn refusal to do anything different from what they've always done is getting pretty hard to understand.
The TLX doesn't sound like a bad car, it just sounds like a song we've heard over and over and over again, a song we're getting pretty sick of. It has a 2.4-liter four, probably the one derived from the once-great Civic Si, or that ubiquitous 3.5-liter V6. Neither engine is terribly impressive in terms of power. It's front-wheel drive with available all-wheel drive. The only thing it really has going for it is its dual-clutch transmissions, which will probably be excellent because they're from Honda.
But these recipes just aren't enough anymore. They haven't been enough for years. Don't believe me? Look at their sales figures , which consistently lag hard behind Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes. They do a little better than Audi, I'll give them that, but at least Audi has a vastly more interesting and diverse lineup of cars. I don't see a whole lot in the T

With its sleek appearance and spacious interior, Acura’s 2014 RDX earned the Best Luxury Compact SUV For The Money award, while its equally appealing MDX luxury SUV earned the Best Luxury 3-Row Midsize SUV For The Money title for itself.
“The MDX and RDX continue to win accolades for their outstanding combination of exhilarating, performance, great fuel efficiency, contact cars and outstanding value on a luxury scale,” explains Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of Acura sales.
To earn the Best Car for the Money moniker, the vehicles had to outdo competitors by way of a ranking that considers both quality contact cars and value data. While quality gets determined by scores in U.S. News car rankings (that grade them on safety, reliability, and industry expert opinions), value is determined collectively by five-year total cost in addition to the average price consumers pay for it at the time the awards are given.
The standard features of the 2014 Acura RDX include new 5-spoke 18-inch wheels, as well as advanced 4-wheel disc brakes including Anti-lock Braking scheme (ABS) with electrical devices Brake Distribution contact cars (EBD) and Brake Assist. With improved contact cars functionality, the new brakes offer less brake pull to decrease revolving resistance and increase fuel economy.
Reviewers claim the RDX is one of the most versatile SUVs in its class attributable to a combination of features like its innovative and user-friendly technology, contact cars roomy interior, and a fuel-efficient V6 that can take it from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds.
The 2014 Acura MDX also demonstrates enhanced efficiency by about 16%, compared to preceding models. Also powered by a 3.5 litre V6, the 2014 MDX has improved exterior aerodynamic features, a larger wheelbase, a better insulated cabin, and redesigned front and rear suspensions. According to Acura, the MDX even beats its predecessor around the Nurburgring by eight seconds.
Variable Cylinder Management technology also accentuates the fuel efficiency of Acura’s SUVs, as it automatically adjusts how many cylinders function at a given time – depending on how much power is required.
