Good news, boys and girls (well, at least those of you who still like shifting for yourselves). Buick got in touch with us to correct some information that it had mistakenly announced ; namely, that the 2015 Verano will lose its optional six-speed manual transmission. Apparently, that announcement was incorrect, and the compact sedan will indeed continue to offer a manual option for 2015, despite what we're certain is a low take rate. Additionally, the Desert Dusk Metallic paint that was said to come as part of an Appearance Package is is no longer part of the deal. With that out of the way, we now return you to your regularly scheduled automotive-obsessive broadcast...

WOW!! I'm impressed that Buick has finally found out what it is producing. Will these vehicles be recalled in the future to add the transmissions that they weren't aware of. June 10 2014 at 11:27 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down Reply
I looked at a 2014 Buick Verano. Nothing to see. A very high-priced Chevy Cruz with half the inventory of a Radio Shack installed in the dashboard. For $27,000? I have never in my life bought anything but American, but I went instead is to the Toyota dealership and bought a car. June 10 2014 at 9:02 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down Reply
As a manual driver is I say who cares. I test drove the manual Verano when it first came out and it was an awful transmission. It shifted like it was stuffed with chewing gum and acorns. Unless GM is willing to put a decent manual in it, why bother. June 10 2014 at 2:25 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down Reply 1 reply to DavidG's comment
Did you try heel-n-toe downshifting? Aside from no noise or vibration for feedback it is very easy to dry. If the throws is are too long Mtech makes a short throw shifter for the Verano/Regal. Personally i just relocated the shift linkages. June 10 2014 at 8:30 PM Report abuse Permalink +1 rate up rate down Reply
We very nearly bought a base Verano for my gf to drive in 2012 (pre Turbo/6M). It was something like 23k. I still think that's an awesome value for a new car. Way more luxury than anything else in the price range, and the car steered pretty well for what it was. We would've got it, but she was randomly lured in by a used V8 Touareg is and I couldn't argue the utility. I'd recommend the Verano to anyone who values quality over cheap thrills. I truly hate that manuals have diminished and glad that their sales have ticked up lately; but a Buick seems like an odd place to make this stand. When I think of Buick I don't think of driver involvement. June 10 2014 at 7:56 AM Report abuse Permalink -2 rate up rate down Reply 1 reply to ScottT's comment
Really? Time to rethink - you don't think the Regal GS is a great car to drive? The Verano is a fun small car to throw around as well - especially with the turbo - 250HP and 260 lb-ft of torque at 2000 RPM in a compact is a recipe for a good time! The Regal GS was a fast car to drive for it's day, but I wouldn't exactly say it was known for it's driver involvement or drivercentric. June 10 2014 at 12:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down
Sorry, I thought you were talking about the Grand National. Still, same applies. They are relatively fast cars, but not really known for being a drivers car (coming is from someone who hasn't is driven a Buick since I was 18). June 10 2014 at 12:43 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down
Does it still shift like a New Holland tractor with that crappy F40 transmission and the loosey goosey plastic clutch pedal and master cylinder assembly? June 09 2014 at 11:36 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down Reply
